Raw Apple Cookies

I love this recipe it's easy and makes a great breakfast "bar." Today I experimented with throwing a packet of vega in it.

- 1 cup walnuts
- 1/2 cup sunflower seeds
(soak together for 24 hours)
- 1 cup raisins
- 1 cup dates
(soak 12 hours)
- 3-4 small apples

Throw all this into a blender and add cinnamon to taste. Place "cookies" on a dehydrator tray and leave in for about 12 hours. Have fun experiment and ENJOY!

Home Made Vegan Yogurt Experiments

Lately, I've been experimenting making vegan yogurt. A couple things I've realized over the course of 7 failed attempts.

- Do not use soy/rice milk with fortification. The ingredients should be only soy/rice & water. The fortification stops the growth of the probiotics.

- Bacteria has a unique growth rate. This means that if you don't have enough bacteria to grow in the soy milk (as your starter). It was never become viscus enough to be considered yogurt. Here is a picture of what i'm talking about. http://www-bioc.rice.edu/bios576/nih_bioreactor/NDL_Bioreactor%20Page_files/bacterial%20growth%20curve.jpg
Bacteria will only grow so much then it stops. So you need to make sure you add enough "starter" bacteria.

- If your using the Excalibur dehydrator do 2 cups max per bowl. You NEED a cover. Otherwise the soy milk will evaporate.

This is what I've learned so far on the subject. I will post a full recipe on how to make vegan yogurt in a future post.
This is my new blog about vegan stuff!
